Dye Industry: It is a crucial intermediate for the synthesis of anthraquinone-based dyes. Through reactions such as chlorination and nitration, different functional groups can be introduced to synthesize hundreds of anthraquinone-based dyes (e.g., Vat Orange G), which are used for dyeing textiles, leather, and other materials.
Papermaking Process: As a high-efficiency pulp additive, it can penetrate into wood chips and be reduced to 2-methylanthrahydroquinone. The latter is unstable and prone to oxidation; through redox cycles, it can oxidize components in wood chips, thereby improving pulp production efficiency.
Pharmaceutical Field: It serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals. In the synthesis of some biologically active compounds, the introduction of the 2-methylanthraquinone structural unit can enhance the efficacy and performance of drugs.
